When the kids at Navesink School wrote me, I looked them up on a map and found that the school was near the ocean; so I sent them this poem.
Our school is near the ocean
It’s really rather neat,
Except that crabs come out at lunch
And nibble at our feet;
And the beach is much more dangerous
Than walking in the park,
Cause teacher went out yesterday
And was eaten by a shark.
But still we like the ocean
And this is our advice:
“Seaside schools are useful
If your teacher isn’t nice.”
