While in Hay River in 2004, I decided to visit Fort Resolution, a 270 km drive along a mostly dirt road. A guy in Hay River named Brad Mapes loaned me his 4 wheel drive truck for the trip (and it was really nice that I had a 4 wheel drive vehicle!) When I returned it, Ciara, Brad’s daughter, was just back from playing hockey across town. I asked why there was no rink in the river in back of the house and that led to this story, which is the best story I made up on this trip. I stayed with 4 families to get story ideas, and the best story comes from an accidental meeting just as the trip was ending!
